The whole team at the Cabessut campsite is at your service to help and advise you concerning the various activities you can enjoy in our beautiful region.

You are really spoilt for choice: mountain-biking, canoeing, tree-top adventure trails, paragliding, first parachute jump or flight in a glider, etc.

Walks and mountain-biking

The Lot département is full of walking and mountain-biking trails. The famous "St James' Way" (the GR 65 trail) goes through Cahors. You will cross the Quercy Blanc ("White Quercy" area, named after the colour of the rocks and soil) in the "Causses du Quercy" Regional Park. You will admire magnificent contrasting landscapes, with arid plateaux and dry grasslands, and fertile valleys where vines and cereal crops grow.

During your walks, you will certainly come across our famous dry stone cazelles or gariottes which served as shelters for shepherds and farmers in days gone by (and sometimes pilgrims).

You can also go horse-riding in one of the many clubs and riding centres around the area, and even cross the rivers on horse-back.

Another circuit not to be missed is the Cahors wine route (Route des vins de Cahors). Of course, you must stop in at the vineyards to taste the famous "black wine" of Cahors, meet the local wine-producers and learn about the history of our wines. The wines from the valleys and the wines from the limestone plateaux have very different characteristics.

You can find out about the many other trails and routes and the different levels of difficulty at the campsite Reception.

Fishing

The Lot département is a fisherman's paradise. There are 1,500km of Category 1 streams, 35 lakes and ponds and 400km of rivers crossing the county, including the Lot and the Dordogne.

A "Fishing Trail" ("Parcours Pêche Passion") has been laid out in Cahors along a 2,500 meter stretch of river surrounded by nature and greenery, just 500 metres from the campsite.
All fishing techniques can be used.

You can fish pike-perch, beam, pike, carp, roach, barbel, gudgeon and tench.

Boat decks have been set up so you can catch carnivorous fish in a boat. More than 20 fishing areas have been installed to make it easier to access the banks with families.

Canoeing, the navigable section of the Lot

You can go canoeing on the three rivers that flow through the département: the Lot, the Célé
and the Dordogne, which offer a total of thirty canoe/kayak rental points.
The circuits are accessible to everyone, whatever your level. Professional instructors also organise accompanied excursions. On these gentle rivers with a few rapids, you will discover the unique and varied landscapes of the region, a blend of nature and history.

The gabarre: captain your own boat!

The gabarre is a small flat-bottom boat, which was traditionally used on the Lot and
Dordogne rivers in times past. You do not need a licence to drive these boats. You can rent them with your whole family and take a ride on the River Lot between Bouziès and Saint-Cirq-Lapopie. There are many little beaches on the banks of the river where you can stop for a swim or for lunch.

Boat trips on the Lot

To take advantage of the beautiful scenery and learn about the nature and history as you go, take a guided trip along the river in one of the many boats that go up and down the Lot. Excursions can last a day or just an hour. The boat trips are available from April to October. Thanks to 17 manual locks, boats can navigate along a 75km stretch of the River Lot. A visit not to be missed!

Climbing, Tree-top trail

The River Lot has carved its path through limestone plateaux, creating magnificent cliffs that are a paradise for climbers. Many professionals propose climbing circuits of different levels, accompanied by certified monitors.

Less experienced climbers can try out the tree-top adventure trail close to Cahors, in the Cap Nature park. The trails are laid out for different levels of difficulty and several have been designed especially for children; perfect for having fun with all the family!

Pot-holing

The Lot département is renowned among pot-holers for its rich variety of
underground networks: chasms, caves and underground rivers. Many of these are also
accessible for beginners. A host of associations around the département propose underground
adventures, accompanied by monitors.

On the doorstep of the campsite in Cahors:

The "Kartors" carting park: a great track with little race cars for children and adults; you can even book your own race.

And if you are looking for adrenaline-filled adventure, try taking your first parachute jump or glider flight! Our local aerodrome is renowned for these two sports.
